Step-by-step

  1. Get your tracking code
Create a free HitCounters account, add your Webflow site URL (the .webflow.io staging URL or your custom domain), and copy your 16-character tracking code.
  2. Open Project Settings
In the Webflow Designer, click the gear icon at the top to open Project Settings.
  3. Go to Custom Code
In Project Settings, click Custom Code in the left sidebar.
  4. Paste into the Head Code field
In the Head Code field (the top one), paste:
    <!-- HitCounters.com -->
    <script async src="https://hitcounters.com/api/tracker.js?code=YOURCODE"></script>
Replace YOURCODE with your tracking code, then click Save Changes.
  5. Publish and verify
Click the Publish button at the top of the Designer. Webflow only injects custom code into published sites — the staging preview won't fire it. Then go to your HitCounters Sites page and click Verify.

Want to track only specific pages?

Webflow lets you set Custom Code per page (Page Settings on each page). For most analytics use cases you want it on every page, so put it in the Project-level Head Code instead.

FAQ

Why isn't the tracker firing on the Webflow staging URL?
Webflow does not inject Project-level Custom Code on staging URLs by default. Either click Publish first, or use a Page-level head code while testing.
Can I use this with Webflow CMS / Ecommerce?
Yes. The snippet runs on every page, including dynamic CMS pages and Ecommerce product/checkout pages.
Will it conflict with Webflow's built-in analytics?
No. They run independently. Webflow's stats stay where they are; HitCounters lives in your dashboard.
