Upgrading your plan

Last updated 2026-04-28

HitCounters bills per site, not per account. You only pay for the sites that need higher log limits or premium features. Tiny personal sites can stay free forever; high-traffic clients pay their own tier.

The free tier

Every site starts on Free. The Free plan gives you:

  • Unlimited page views (counted, never billed)
  • Up to 500 stored sessions at a time (older sessions roll off)
  • Daily aggregates kept forever
  • Real-time visitor list, basic visitor logs
  • Goals & conversion tracking
  • Email digest reports

If your site has steady low traffic, free works indefinitely.

Upgrading a site

  1. Go to /dashboard/sites.php.
  2. Click on the plan badge next to any site (it shows "Free" by default).
  3. Pick a tier and confirm. We charge a prorated amount for the rest of the current billing period.

Or visit /dashboard/upgrade.php to upgrade multiple sites at once.

What paid tiers add

Higher tiers raise the session retention limit (5,000 / 25,000 / 100,000 / unlimited) and unlock features like:

  • Live visitors — the always-on real-time dashboard
  • Bot scoring — per-visit quality scores 0-100 with detailed flags
  • Traffic Insights — engagement scoring grouped by source
  • CSV export
  • Team members — invite collaborators to specific sites
  • API access

See the pricing page for the current tier matrix.

Trials

The first time you create a new site, it gets a trial of our best paid tier for a limited number of days — no card required. Once the trial ends, the site reverts to Free unless you upgrade.

Downgrading or cancelling

Click the plan badge and pick Free (or a lower paid tier). We cancel the Stripe subscription and prorate any unused time as a credit. Your data stays where it is — downgrades only affect what features and retention you have going forward.

Add-ons

Need more session retention without jumping tiers? Each tier has optional log-limit add-ons. Click the plan badge, then Configure add-on.

Unlimited free via promo code

If you have a promo code, redeem it on your billing page. Some codes give unlimited free access to all features — in that case you can pick any tier without paying.
